Tell us a little bit about your photography - where are you based and what type of photography do you currently enjoy?
I am a wedding + high school senior portrait photographer based in Charleston, SC!
In only a couple of words, how would you describe your style of photography?
Light, bright and bold!
Tell us about one of your most memorable photoshoots or perhaps a favourite photo you have taken?
One of my favorite sessions I've photographed was a "Notebook" inspired styled shoot that I hosted when I was only 18 years old. It was my first attempt at hosting a "workshop" for other photographers, and those images became some of my most popular work at the time! I'm still so proud of them.
As a photographer, nurturing your creativity while trying to balance self employment and life can be a little tricky sometimes. Where do you find the inspiration to continue creating and maintaining consistency?
For me, self care and prioritizing my mental health have been HUGE in avoiding burnout and protecting my creativity. Taking time away from work to go to the gym, get outside in nature, cook a homemade meal or even just spend time with a friend makes a DRAMATIC difference int he way I'm able to show up well in my business. I also make sure to work in time for PERSONAL work - shoots that have no other purpose than to be creative and have fun!
Having grown as a photographer, is there any piece of advice that you could give to yourself when you first started down this path, or wish you had known sooner?
To lean into the things that make me, ME. Instead of shying away from the pieces of my story, talents or work that make me different...EMBRACE those things and know that they are the exact pieces of you that will help your business soar. Stop trying to be like anyone else!
Is there anything special you have been working on - mentoring, workshops, courses etc. We'd love to let other photographers know!
All of my educational resources can be found at the link below - including in-person workshops in Charleston and my online courses!
What gear are you currently using and what would you typically carry in your Kamrette camera bag?
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark lll and my Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART lens most often! You can always find those two in my bag, along with a 35mm 1.4 and an 85mm 1.2!
Let's finish it off with a fan favourite - if you could only have one lens, which one would you choose?
50mm 1.4 all the way!
